Barkley Buick GMC Truck Cadillac, Inc is located approximately 50 miles west of Birmingham traveling on I-59 to exit 76.  Birmingham was founded in 1871 and currently serves as the county seat for Jefferson county.  Over the years, Birmingham has been called "The Magic City" thanks to the astonishing pace of growth at the beginning of the 20th Century and the "Pittsburgh of the South" due to the ability to manufacture and produce iron and steel.  Even today, Birmingham is home to large steel companies such as US Steel and Oneal Steel just to name a couple.  Birmingham's dependence on steel and iron creates an ironic twist on the city;s "mascot" Vulcan because he is the world's largest cast iron statue and has been quietly watching over Birmingham since 1904 except for a small period in the late 90's where he was taken down from his pedestal so he could receive some much needed restoration.

With the population growth that Birmingham experienced in the early 20th century, there was a need for entertainment so in 1927, Paramount opened the Alabama Theater in downtown Birmingham.  Initially, it was built for the viewing of silent films so they installed a mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ.  The Alabama Theater is still open today and features a variety of events ranging from recitals to live concerts and various film series.  The Wurlitzer pipe organ is also still in action and is only one of 3 that is still functional in its original location.
